Description
The SQUID was born in 2019 thanks to a collaboration between Patrice Remoiville and a naval architect, with the idea that a paddleboard could be inspired by the design of a river kayak to ensure maximum stability with minimal waterline width. A few SQUIDs ranging from 14′ to 18′ have since been produced, but this atypical model struggled to gain traction, despite the remarkable performances of competitors such as Florent Dode, Morgan Bénard, and Nico De La Fuente.
Today, the SQUID 2024 has been given a makeover, notably with its “refined aerial sections” for increased efficiency and enhanced appeal. When the board is on its lines, it can appear laterally unstable, but this instability hides spectacular speed. The lateral fins intervene to correct excessive tilt, allowing the board to regain its stability.
The SQUID 2024 adopts a “Dugout” design, deeply hollowed with more than 130 mm at the center of gravity, offering use with an even narrower width. The deck at foot level is flush with the water and incorporates four water evacuation tubes equipped with check valves. The deck line rises towards the rear to ensure excellent foot support during maneuvers. Compared to the 2019 version, the tail width has been reduced to further minimize water drag at the rear of the board. The front section has also been thickened to limit water boarding when passing rapids.
The board’s dimensions are indicated by two values: e.g., 24″ for the width at the top of the fins and 20″ for the maximum width at the waterline.
Its construction is made using 3 BAY’s proven BRUSH CARBON method. It is available with a wide choice of Brush Carbon decorations.
